Two Ways to Foster

Different people have different schedules and comfort levels, which is why we offer two types of foster opportunities. Both play an essential role in making sure pets stay safe while their owners pursue recovery.

Rapid Response Foster Team

Our Rapid Response Fosters are the first line of support.

Sometimes a pet needs a safe place immediately when someone enters detox, treatment, or another recovery program. Rapid Response fosters step in during these urgent moments.

These placements are typically short term and may last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks while we coordinate longer term care.

Rapid Response fosters make it possible for someone to seek help without worrying about where their pet will go.

This role is perfect for people who:

• Have a flexible schedule
• Are comfortable helping on short notice
• Want to make an immediate impact during a critical moment

Rapid Response fosters are calm, adaptable, and incredibly important to our mission.

Recovery Foster

Recovery Fosters provide longer, stable placements for pets while their owners focus on treatment and rebuilding their lives.

These placements can last several weeks to a few months depending on the situation.

Recovery fosters give animals routine, consistency, and a loving home environment while their person works toward reunification.

This role is great for people who:

• Enjoy having a dog or cat as part of their daily routine
• Can offer a stable home environment
• Want to play a meaningful role in someone’s recovery journey

Recovery fosters often form meaningful bonds with the animals in their care while knowing they are helping make reunification possible.

What Fostering Is Really Like

Fostering is often much easier than people expect.

Most animals entering our program are already deeply loved pets who are simply going through a temporary life transition with their owner.

They are used to living in homes and being part of a family.

Your role is simply to provide a safe and caring place while their person gets back on their feet.

This might look like:

• Walks
• Couch cuddles
• Mealtime
• Occasional vet visits
• Sending updates or photos to our team

Many of our fosters say it’s one of the most rewarding experiences they’ve had.

Foster Requirements

To ensure the best experience for both you and the animals in our care, we ask that foster homes meet a few basic requirements.

You must be at least 18 years old

You must own your home or provide proof that pets are allowed in your rental

You must provide a safe living environment (a fenced yard is preferred for dogs but not required)

You must have reliable transportation for veterinary visits or emergencies if needed

You must be comfortable communicating with our team and providing occasional updates

Most importantly, you must have patience, compassion, and a willingness to help an animal adjust to a new environment.

You’re Never Doing This Alone

Our team supports foster families every step of the way.

We provide guidance, resources, and supplies whenever possible. We help coordinate veterinary care, answer questions, and make sure you feel confident caring for your foster pet.

Fostering should feel rewarding and joyful, not overwhelming.
